Havasupai – July 2018

Day 1

We began our hike to Havasupai from the Hualapai Hilltop (the trailhead is at the north end of Indian Road 18, about 60.2 miles north of Highway 66 (mile post 111) around 4:30 AM without headlamps.  It was light enough to see the trail without artificial lighting (flashlight/headlamp) around 4:45 AM.  We made it to the village of Supai around 7:30 AM.

There are mile posts (brown colored stake about 6 inches wide and about 4 feet tall) at mile 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6.  Mile post 5 is near mile post 3 – not sure why.

Animals seen on this trip:

Lizards, squirrels, cows, ducks, big horn sheep, fish, frogs, Grand Canyon rattle snake, king snake, prong horn antelope, turkey, raccoon, bull elk, cow elk, bats, dogs, hawks, crows, turkey vultures.

  1. We LOVE Havasupai! I can’t help but notice how frequently (AND LUCKY you are) you get to take the trip … how are you able to obtain multiple permits like that? Especially curious since they sell out so fast online every registration day *literally mind blowing!* Great blog & thanks for adventuring on!
