Fossil Springs, Arizona – April 2018

Fossil Springs, Arizona – April 2018

Three friends and I visited my home away from home, A.K.A. Fossil Creek Wild and Scenic River.

It started off right.  We parked at the Fossil Springs Trailhead parking area (Lot 9 – permit required April 1 – October 1).  I got out of the truck and there were three Search and Rescue Volunteers in the parking lot.  One of the Search and Rescue Volunteers was Joe.  Joe called out, “Good to see you again, Rex!”  I have not seen Joe since the last permit season.  Nice to be remembered.

We hiked the 4 1/4 miles to the Fossil Creek Falls (the old dam waterfall).  We did make our customary stop at the main spring en route to the waterfall.  The spring was 70.3 degrees.  The water temperature at the waterfall was 70.5 degrees.  The air temperature was in the 80s.

We played around the waterfall, in the Secret Grotto, the Cool Room, I went through the Toilet Bowl, chilled in the Jacuzzi Pool, relaxed on the ledge in the waterfall, and swam with the fish in the Blue Cove.

Two items that I always take to Fossil Creek are water shoes and goggles.
